Well hello, welcome Hobo Live Club Fridays! For the rest of 2025 we will host a monthly live gig Fridays with a selection of amazing local artists. And the best part? It's FREE for you! Music kicks off at 21:00, the bar’s stocked and the kitchen’s serving. 

Live Club Friday, 6th of June: Masalin & VOX!

After fronting the genre-blending chaos of Tundramatiks and the brass-fueled energy of Bad Ass Brass Band, Janne Masalin took a bold step into solo territory with Yhdessä olemme alasti (2020). The album fused echoing electric guitars, accordion, and Masalin’s signature vocals with Totte Rautiainen’s electronic touch. Lyrically, he shifted from societal critique to more personal themes—desire, intimacy, and love. Tracks like On yö landed on YleX playlists, while Gospel sumun keskellä won over Radio Suomi’s critics. Even amidst a pandemic, Masalin played across Finland, from solo gigs to a full choral arrangement of his work at Paavalinkirkko.

His second album, Kuoseja (2023), flips the script—trading delicate poetry for playful energy. Self-produced and fueled by groovy beats, rocking live sounds, and catchy refrains, the record embraces spontaneity. Masalin’s background in performance and film sound design comes through in its layered textures and free-associative lyrics. Live, he shapeshifts between a one-man electro-folk whirlwind and leading Kuosit, a powerhouse band featuring guitarist Lauri Kallio, bassist Jarno T. Karjalainen, and drummer Aleksi Kinnunen. Expect Telecasters, accordions, and synths—plus a whole lot of stomp and swagger.
