About Alma:
Rising Helsinki-based musician and songwriter Alma Alanko took her music more seriously about four years ago when she decided to study songwriting in Berlin. Over time, the idea of a solo career also began to take shape.
"Music has always been my way of expressing myself and processing my emotions. My music is very lyric-driven with a modern sound, influenced by the songs I listened to as a kid," Alanko shares.
"Originally, I wanted to create Finnish-language hyperpop because that genre has had a huge impact on me since my teenage years. But as we started developing the sound, it unexpectedly took on a darker and more pop-like direction," she continues.
Her years in Berlin have also left a mark on her music. Many of her recent songs tell stories of moments experienced in the city and the inspiring people she met there.
"In Berlin, I got into the local rap, pop, and dance music scenes, which have influenced my own music production a lot. I still listen to a lot of German pop, and one of my favorite artists is Baby B3ns. I also love the new wave of Finnish pop—I’m hooked on Mirella and Behm’s hits, for example. But musically, my biggest inspiration has been Charli XCX. I find it fascinating how she constantly reinvents herself as an artist while still maintaining her distinct sound.
In general, I get inspired by the people around me, books, great songs, and interesting words or phrases.”
